Old Babylonian Hematite Seal


Western Asiatic Old Babylonian Period Cylinder Seal with Figures 18th-17th century BC. A carved haematite cylinder seal with three figures, central small female figure standing on a lion with sun symbol above, a tall female figure wearing horned crown to the right with eight-pointed star in front of her, a tall male figure wearing hat and short dress standing with one leg on an ibex; a panel with two pairs of winged lions(?) separated with an interlaced panel. See Collon, D. First Impressions. Cylinder Seals in the Ancient Near East, London, 2005, p.53. 7.15 grams, 19mm (3/4"). From a North London collection; formerly in the Rihani family collection, formed 1970-1980s. Very fine condition.
